I’m so thrilled you’re here, and excited to work with you on your harp journey, whether you’re starting out as a beginner, returning to the instrument, or furthering your studies. This page contains a comprehensive list of information and links that will assist you as you get started. Please begin with the studio packet below, which outlines my policies, expectations, and teaching philosophy so that we may build a fun, grounded lesson relationship grounded in clarity, trust, and respect. Purchase or rent a harp

I currently have a 36-string walnut Pratt lever harp available for rent in Southern California. Please contact me for more information. Getting Started

Once you have acquired your harp, here are a few basics to keep in mind:

  • Temperature and Humidity: As a general rule of thumb, if you are happy, your harp is happy! Keep the temperature around 65 F - 75F, and humidity levels around 45% - 55%.

  • Placement: Keep the harp away from windows with direct sunlight, and/or away from reach of pets and/or small children. You may place the harp flush against the wall, parallel to it, for storage and to prevent tipping. When not playing, I recommend covering your harp with a dust cover.

  • Personal: Wash your hands prior to playing the instrument, to avoid sticky strings. Keep your fingernails trimmed to be close to your fingers. If playing pedal harp, you may elect to practice in shoes that are comfortable for you to pedal in (organ shoes, dance shoes, etc).

Tuning & Changing Strings

Ideally, try to tune your harp once a week. Harp strings are sensitive to temperature shifts, and so will likely go out of tune and/or break more frequently during the night or seasonal changes.

To be prepared to play the harp, you must have the following at materials at home:

  • Harp!

  • Music stand

  • Bench of appropriate height, adjustable preferred

  • Tuning key

  • Tuner (app or physical product)

  • Pencil

  • Notebook (for notes, questions, lesson notes, practice log, etc)
